Research SupportOne of SAICA's main objectives is to 'promote and encourage the conduct and presentation of research activities in the area of Intensive Care Medicine'. This is achieved through a number of complementary programs, providing financial assistance for registrars to present their original research at scientific meetings, and in our support of a REDCap platform. The Tub Worthley Travelling Scholarship
This annual scholarship is run as a joint ANZICS and CICM educational meeting, with generous commercial sponsorship from Pfizer Australia. Historically, SAICA was born through a need to support and run the SA Fellowship Examination Course initiated by Tub Worthley at the Royal Adelaide Hospital in 1983 - whilst he was also the President of ANZICS (1982-1984). Therefore, it is only fitting that SAICA provides support for this scholarship, established to acknowledge the extraordinary contribution to Intensive Care Medicine by Tub Worthley.
This scholarship is awarded against fellow ICU trainees in a formally judged presentation meeting and, aside from the monetary prize, is a meaningful entry for any aspiring Intensivist's CV. We would encourage all trainees to consider this award in the first instance. PhD and Masters Degree CandidatesHigher degree students completing original research may apply for financial support to present at a national or international meeting, or to facilitate visiting another centre or research facility with direct relevance to the candidate’s studies.
ICU RegistrarsGeneral trainees working in ICU and completing original research may apply for a financial co-contribution to support presentation at a national or international meeting.
