The 44th South Australian
CICM Fellowship Exam Course

Online Registration (Closed) | Opens on September 2, 2026, 10:00 am

The 2026 course will be held: 11-13th Feb 2026.

It will be based at Ayers House in the centre of Adelaide, with Hot Cases at the Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH), Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Flinders Medical Centre and Lyell McEwin Hospital. [See MAP]

It is specifically aimed at trainees sitting for the CICM Fellowship Examination, and is strictly limited to those planning to sit the exam in 2026.

The Course runs for 3 days and has a very practical and interactive focus. It includes tutorials on the written examination, vivas and hot cases, as well as running mock examinations in each of these. All candidates will do trial hot cases at 2 different hospitals.

Please note that the course contains little didactic teaching, and the intention is not to teach core knowledge in intensive care medicine. The focus is very much on preparation for the exam, and so a significant degree of knowledge and exam practice is assumed prior to attending the course.

Over 30 Faculty are involved, including several from interstate, and many are current or past examiners.

The cost is AUD$1500.   Positions on the course are strictly limited and registration will open September 2, 2026, 10:00 am (Australian Central Standard Time, ACST).

Please Note - as the course is invariably oversubscribed and late withdrawals problematic:

Background

In 1983, an in-house Royal Adelaide Hospital course was organised to prepare four candidates for the final examination in Intensive Care Medicine (Faculty of Anaesthetists, RACS). Following the success of this course, a national course was suggested, and in April 1985 the first Australian Short Course on Intensive Care Medicine was held at the RAH under the direction of Dr Lindsay ‘Tub’ Worthley.

The course has been run most years since, interrupted only by COVID, and has continued to evolve such that there is now little didactic teaching, with the focus very much on practical sessions and trial exams.

It is specifically aimed at trainees sitting the CICM Fellowship Examination and is strictly limited to those planning to sit within the next 12 months.
